: Great capture of this show’s penultimate performance. The beginning of Act One is a bit rough, with a few short blackouts / periods of wandering, but the rest of the show is well-captured. Lee, Rob Morrison, Katrina Yaukey
Notes: Filmed on phone, edited in post to zoom and pan to action on stage. Closer zooms are a little grainy, but still watchable. Due to close proximity and angle, some performers are cut off from the waist up when closest to camera, and there is some wide-angle distortion on the far sides. But still a great capture of this revival.

Great HD capture of the magical Disney musical, featuring the understudies for Emelius Browne, Norton and Angela. Filmed with a mix of wides, mediums and closeups, there is minimal wandering and almost zero obstructions. This is the only publicly released video recording of this acclaimed, sold out production with the original West End revival cast. This recording suffered from spotlight washout. The washout has mostly been fixed in editing as it's impossible to fully correct. The recording has more zooms to prevent further washout. Fortunately, this production is minimalistic and performance focused so it doesn't hinder the overall experience of the show. The recording is mainly filmed in close ups and mediums. A head is sometimes visible in the wide shots of the musical numbers. Recording includes the curtain call and marquee.

Cat on a Hot Tin Roof
On a steamy night in Mississippi, a Southern family gather at their cotton plantation to celebrate Big Daddy’s birthday. The scorching heat is almost as oppressive as the lies they tell. Brick and Maggie dance round the secrets and sexual tensions that threaten to destroy their marriage. With the future of the family at stake, which version of the truth is real – and which will win out?
Sienna Miller stars as Maggie alongside Jack O’Connell as Brick and Colm Meaney as Big Daddy. A return to the stage for director Benedict Andrews following his smash hit production of A Streetcar Named Desire. Tennessee Williams’ searing, poetic story of a family’s fight for survival is a twentieth century masterpiece.

Good capture of Emma Pittman’s very limited run as Roxie. There were several moments of blackouts, wandering, etc as ushers were active, primarily in scene transitions. There is also some obstruction in the form of a head at the bottom of the stage, and occasionally the master’s covering. Spotlight washout is fairly frequent but rarely obscures a character’s face. Includes curtain call and most of the entr’acte.

: Great capture of Angelica Ross’s limited run as Roxie! There are small obstructions when characters are sitting or laying down, and more wandering than usual due to usher vigilance. Starting near the end of “Me and My Baby” to the beginning of “Mister Cellophane,” there is a blackout due to somebody moving in front and obstructing the view. Includes most of curtain call.

The Doctor

Park Avenue Armory
Full stage shot with iphone. No closeups, some heads in way. Spotlight washout.
Award-winning actress Juliet Stevenson brings her tour-de-force performance in Robert Icke's The Doctor to New York for a limited time.
Icke's The Doctor play is loosely based on Professor Bernhardi, a play written by Arthur Schnitzler in 1912. That show centered on a Jewish doctor in Vienna who refused to let a Catholic priest administer last rites to a patient who did not know she was dying. The play explored then-contentious topics of anti-Semitism and the crossover of religion and medicine.
The Doctor adapts this story for the present day. Stevenson plays Ruth Wolff, also a Jewish doctor who refuses a priest's last rites on behalf of a patient dying of a self-inflicted abortion. Her polarizing decision makes news beyond the hospital, sparking nationwide public debate and throwing Wolff's career, livelihood, and beliefs in jeopardy.
The play premiered in London in 2022 to rave reviews. Stevenson is a celebrated British stage and screen actress, having starred on screen in projects like Bend It Like Beckham, A Doll's House, The Politician's Wife, and Accused; she earned BAFTA Award nominations for Best Actress for the latter three. On stage, she won the Olivier Award for starring in Death and the Maiden. The Doctor off Broadway marks her first New York stage performance in 20 years.

Filmed between a couple heads that occasionally got in the way when they leaned toward each other or when the guy lifted his arm to scratch his head - but rarely blocks significant action. Few drop-outs when people nearby came in late or left early. Camera did not do well with one scene using a lot of blue light, but the rest of the show is beautifully filmed.

An absolutely gorgeous quality video taken from the mezzanine. Wonderful closeup, medium and wide shots. Some of the action is obstructed due to the very odd staging of this show (set to be like a dance club). Some of the action at the very front is cut off, and when needed, the screens are occasionally filmed instead of the stage. The audience involved dancing is usually completely obstructed or blacked out (but is irrelevant to the flow of the story). Some wandering and unfocusedness throughout due to all the different places the actors go

I Put A Spell On You 10/29/20
A bewitchingly cinematic extravaganza awaits when I Put a Spell on You, the annual sold-out Halloween concert-meets-party, moves online Thursday, October 29, in a fully produced spectacle . The virtual Halloween blowout, presented by Con Limón Productions and Jay Armstrong Johnson, will benefit Broadway Cares. I Put a Spell on You was created by and stars Johnson. The annual show is a spoof of and tribute to the beloved cult classic movie Hocus Pocus. This year’s COVID-safe digital film is not your average stream: it’s complete with larger-than-life performances and choreography, over-the-top costumes and makeup, unmatched production value and a healthy dose of Broadway magic. This year, the beloved Hocus Pocus-inspired Sanderson Sisters break the internet and recruit some of pop culture’s most iconic villains (think Cruella de Vil, Gaston, The Joker, Maleficent and more) to fulfill their delightfully devious plot. Johnson returns as Winifred Sanderson with Allison Robinson and Amanda Williams Ware as sisters Sarah and Mary.

Kiss My Aztec
Hartford Stage Company
June 2022
From comedy legend John Leguizamo and director Tony Taccone comes an irreverent new musical loosely based on Latin-American history… very loosely! Travel back to the 16th century as a group of Aztecs lead the resistance against Spanish invaders. With a fierce female warrior at the helm and a not-so-fierce clown in tow, they mount a scrappy attack—and get entangled with royalty, conquistadors, and puppets!
With music and lyrics from Benjamin Velez and David Kamp, KISS MY AZTEC!’s fusion of salsa, gospel, hip-hop, funk, and merengue makes for a jubilant and hilarious celebration of Hispanic, Latin, and Pre-Columbian cultures.

Lady in the Dark
Jan. 29, 2023
Perri Di Christina, Vince Gover
The Bronx Opera Company is proud to present a rare NYC production of the landmark musical LADY IN THE DARK, with music and lyrics by Kurt Weill and Ira Gershwin, and book by Moss Hart.
Our protagonist, Liza Elliott, is extremely successful -- she's the editor of a fashion magazine, she has several suitors vying for her affections -- but nevertheless she is miserable and cannot decide which direction she wants her life to take. She visits a psychiatrist, who delves into her feelings by way of her dreams: a dream of glamour, a dream of marriage, and finally a dream of a manic "circus" trial, in which she is forced to defend herself against the charge that she refuses to make up her mind. Will Liza ever realize what, or who, will fulfill her so that she can live her best life?
LADY IN THE DARK premiered at the Alvin Theatre on Broadway on January 23, 1941, with a cast led by Gertrude Lawrence and Danny Kaye. "The Saga of Jenny," "My Ship," and "Tchaikovsky" are the three most well-known songs in a brilliant piece of musical theatre which combines the verbal style of Hart, the always fascinating musical language of Weill, and the brilliant lyrics of Gershwin.

Leopoldstadt NTL 2022
Leopoldstadt is a passionate drama of love, family and endurance. At the beginning of the 20th century, Leopoldstadt was the old, crowded Jewish quarter of Vienna, Austria. But Hermann Merz, a factory owner and baptised Jew now married to Catholic Gretl, has moved up in the world. We follow his family's story across half a century, passing through the convulsions of war, revolution, impoverishment, annexation by Nazi Germany and the Holocaust. A company of 40 actors represent each generation of the family in this epic, but intimate play.

LIVE FROM FEINSTEIN’S/54 BELOW: NORBERT LEO BUTZ SINGS TORCH SONGS FOR A PANDEMIC
LIVE AUGUST 21, 2021 7PM
Join two-time Tony Award winner Norbert Leo Butz (Big Fish, Catch Me If You Can, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Wicked, The Last 5 Years) for this intimate set of tunes inspired by seven months of isolation in Vancouver, British Columbia, while filming the NBC series “Debris.”
In this, Norbert’s third original show at Feinstein’s/54 Below, the actor and singer sings songs of alienation and anxiety, hope and transformation, and the healing power of a perfectly written pop song. Sans his usual band, the evening features Norbert playing all his own arrangements, on piano and guitar, of some of pop and rock ‘n’ roll’s greatest all time songwriters, including Bruce Springsteen, Dolly Parton, Peter Gabriel, Tom Waits, Joni Mitchell, and Fleetwood Mac, to name a few. This show will feature a duet with a surprise special guest.

In 1991, after the fall of the Soviet Union, the new Russia belongs to its oligarchs—and no one is more powerful than billionaire Boris Berezovsky. When an eventual successor to President Boris Yeltsin is needed, Berezovsky turns to the little-known deputy mayor of St. Petersburg, Vladimir Putin. But soon Putin’s ruthless rise threatens Berezovsky’s reign, setting off a riveting, near-Shakespearean confrontation between the two powerful, fatally flawed men.
Tony and Emmy Award nominee Michael Stuhlbarg stars as Berezovsky and Will Keen reprises his Olivier Award-winning turn as Putin in PATRIOTS, a shockingly timely history play from Peter Morgan, creator of “The Crown.”

The Puffs ( Live off Broadway July 2018) New World Stages
The Off-Broadway sensation, now playing at New World Stages, began at the Peoples Improv Theatre before transferring to the Elektra Theater in downtown Manhattan. It made the leap to its current home in July.
In the theatre community, the Puffs fandom has become as rabid as the Harry Potter fandom before it, and the screening is the answer to broadcasting the story of the ”Puffs,” the more ignored house at a certain wizarding school, to a wider audience.
Puffs takes a second look at everyones favorite world of wizards through the eyes of the Puffs, a lovable group of magical misfits.
Puffs was filmed over two performances in February. It stars Langston Belton, Madeleine Bundy, Jessie Cannizzaro, Nick Carrillo, A.J. Ditty, Julie Ann Earls, James Fouhey, Andy Miller, Zac Moon, Eleanor Philips, and Stephen Stout.
The show, directed by Kristin McCarthy Parker, was originally produced by Stephen Stout and Colin Waitt and is currently produced by Tilted Windmills Theatricals’ John Arthur Pinckard and David Carpenter.

Will Brill, Juliana Canfield
Very good Iphone recording. Good quality.
Stereophonic mines the agony and the ecstasy of creation as it zooms in on a music studio in 1976. Here, an up-and-coming rock band recording a new album finds itself suddenly on the cusp of superstardom. The ensuing pressures could spark their breakup — or their breakthrough. Written by David Adjmi, directed by Daniel Aukin, and featuring original music by Arcade Fire’s Will Butler, Stereophonic invites the audience to immerse themselves — with fly-on-the-wall intimacy — in the powder keg process of a band on the brink of blowing up.

There is a major head obstruction on the right side which blocks off some action, though it is worked around as best as possible. Some wandering and unfocusing. Includes curtain call.

Vanities The Musical 23 York Theatre
Theatre at St. Jeans

Filmed up close, in between heads. Spotlight washout.
Vanities–The Musical is a heartfelt and humorous chronicle of the lives of three women, Joanne, Kathy, and Mary, tracing them from their late teen years through adulthood. They grow and change, testing the limits of what they thought they knew about themselves, as well as the narrow views of women society has presented them.
Based on the hugely successful play of the same name by Jack Heifner (who also wrote the book for the musical), the action takes us through three decades in these women’s lives from 1963 to 1990. Starting as vivacious small-town cheerleaders and best friends in high school, then sorority sisters in college, and, finally, women with separate and very different lives, they travel unique journeys that will ultimately bring them back together, giving them the chance to encounter each other once again—mature women able to face one another with honesty and compassion.
Featuring an infectious and melodic score by David Kirshenbaum, which playfully echoes the genres of music from the three decades contained within the play, Vanities—The Musical celebrates the power of women and their unique bonds of friendship.

A beautiful capture of this surprise smash taken from the rear orchestra. Beautiful closeup, meidum and wide shots. There can be a small bit of spotlight washout, but it doesn't distract from anything. The show does have a very Jersey Boys vibe to it, so if you're a fan of Dion or Jersey Boys, you'll definitely enjoy it.
