Leopoldstadt is a passionate drama of love, family and endurance. At the beginning of the 20th century, Leopoldstadt was the old, crowded Jewish quarter of Vienna, Austria. But Hermann Merz, a factory owner and baptised Jew now married to Catholic Gretl, has moved up in the world. We follow his family's story across half a century, passing through the convulsions of war, revolution, impoverishment, annexation by Nazi Germany and the Holocaust. Looking at Christmas WNET 13 Nov. 27, 2014
The Flea Theatre presents...Looking at Christmas begins with the chance encounter of two down-and-out New Yorkers in front of a department store window display. As they strike up a conversation, it doesn’t take long for them to realize that they, too, are being watched — by the displays themselves. The would-be lovers — along with the audience — are treated to a series of funny, surreal and warm interpretations of classic Christmas-special tropes.

London Wall PBS
LONDON WALL premiered in 1931 at the Duke of York’s Theatre, one of five plays by John Van Druten that enjoyed success in London in the early 30’s. The play was acclaimed for its deftly etched characters and richly detailed atmosphere, yet it languished in obscurity until London’s Finborough Theater successfully revived it in 2013. One year later our warmly-received production marked the play’s American premiere.
“This carefully observed 1931 workplace drama is both of its time and ahead of it as it follows four single women working as typists at a law firm and navigating the rocky road of romance,” wrote Diane Snyder in Time Out New York, calling the play “involving, insightful entertainment.”1 Laura Collins-Hughes of the New York Times hailed “Watching Davis McCallum’s brisk, pitch-perfect production at the Mint Theater Company feels like stumbling across a lost film classic by Howard Hawks: How did this fresh and fizzy thing fall into obscurity?”
Our production of LONDON WALL extended three times and was nominated for a Lucille Lortel Award for Outstanding Revival, and two Drama Desk Awards for Outstanding Revival of a Play and Outstanding Featured Actress in a Play (Julia Coffey). The production was filmed by WNET for broadcast on THIRTEEN, the PBS station in New York.

Phenomenal show with an innovative take on the classic play, and Alan Cumming gives an amazing performance. A few blackouts (seconds long) and moments of wandering, but mostly its really well-shot and steady and unobstructed. The set has video-screens that show close-ups, and filmer shot those when the rest of the stage was pitch black.

Matilda
2/1/12 ~ London
Cleo Demetriou, Bertie Carvel, Lauren Ward, Paul Kaye, Josie Walker, Peter Howe. Act 1 highlights only-not the complete show. Roald Dahl's classic novel, loved by generations of readers, has been adapted in a hilarious new version by Dennis Kelly with songs by composer and comedian Tim Minchin. In Matilda, the central character is a little girl with astonishing wit, intelligence and psychokinetic powers. She's unloved by her parents but impresses her schoolteacher with and, over the course of her first term at school, teacher and pupil have a profound effect on each other's lives. Unfortunately this is the only video footage that exists of the popular West End show. The entire video is just 26 minutes long, and is plagued with some blackouts and ceiling shots. What is captured is nice and clear however.

Fantastic show that captures both the dark and whimsical tone of Roald Dahl, great visuals and performances by everyone. Sophia is the youngest Matilda and she was great. Very small lyrical changes from London. Well shot and mostly steady, a head appears at the bottom of the screen sometimes because the person in front kept leaning forward . Some wandering during Telly as the house lights were on.

Men are Not Gods
Men Are Not Gods is a 1936 British film starring Miriam Hopkins and co-starring Gertrude Lawrence, Sebastian Shaw andRex Harrison. It was a success in the UK when released largely due to the popularity of the two female stars Hopkins and Lawrence. This also brought to attention the talents of Rex Harrison who made his breakthrough into Hollywood not too long after this film. Gertrude Lawrence, although not so much a movie actress, was at the peak of her stage career when this film was released and her performance was praised.

When action is to the right or center stage, it is amazing.
This is far from perfect, but if you want a glimpse in the Moulin Rouge...the show is sensational!

Aaron Tveit (Christian), Karen Olivio (Satine), Danny Burstein (Harold Zidler), Sahr Ngaujah (Toulouse-Lautrec), Tam Mutu (the Duke of Monroth), Ricky Rojas (Santiago), Robyn Hurder as (Nini). Finally, a great recording of the show in Boston! Recorded through the house camera, so it’s a stationary, full stage shot with audio patched in directly from the sound board. But this is different than other similarly filmed house-cam videos in that it’s closer to the stage and the stage is framed perfectly within the camera range. (However, occasionally if the actors are off on the far left or far right of the stage they are out of view). There are actually two house cameras used. The close-up camera that frames the stage is used for most of the show, but there’s a wider shot one that is also utilized a few times.

NOTES: Choreo-focused capture. Act one is shot nicely with occasional blocks from heads, as well as a railing that obstructs part of downstage
left. Act 2 includes through Shipoopi for its few good moments, then picks up at Will I Ever Tell You. The rest of the act is shot around a head, but
still follows the action well enough and has plenty of great moments.

Oh What A Lovely War!
1963 ~ Dutch TV
RARE! This appears to be a recording of the original London cast filmed for Dutch TV. In English, with Danish credits after the show. Created by Charles Chilton, Joan Littlewood and the ensemble Theatre Workshop cast, and directed by Littlewood, Oh! What A Lovely War blends vaudevillian sketches highlighting the farce of war with images of World War I and nauseating statistics. The actors, performing a variety of roles throughout the course of the show, wore commedia dellarte style black and white costumes, and some of the most popular songs of the Great War, such as Its A Long Way To Tipperary and Pack Up Your Troubles were used to underline the vulgarity of war. The sketches in the devised piece included French soldiers bleating like lambs to the slaughter as they marched into No Mans Land. A successful run at Stratford East, where The Guardians Philip Hope-Wallace described the piece as The most brilliantly imagined political comment of our theatre in all the years since the second war, saw the show transfer to the Wyndhams theatre in the West End. The show cemented its reputation by winning the Grand Prix of the Theatre des Nations festival in Paris that year. In 1964 the show opened on Broadway and ran for 125 performances. Five years later Richard Attenborough transformed the stage production into a film that starred many of the West Ends major players. In black and white. Second Act ONLY-this is all the footage that survived. 63 min.

Icke radically reimagines this Greek drama for the modern stage, condensing the tragic trilogy into a single performance that electrifies and devastates in equal measure with Olivier Award-nominated Anastasia Hille (The Effect, The Master Builder) in the role of Klytemnestra. This daring update allows audiences to investigate the justification of vengeance, the possibility of finding justice in retaliation, and the role of judicial democracy at work—themes that continue to resonate nearly two and a half millennia after the play was written.
Good Iphone recording. No close ups . Stationary shot from orchestra. Good view and audio.

Show is 99% sung. Very cute show about relationships, a few blackouts here and there, mostly during applause, one major cover up the goes from the end of "Gotta Get Out" through all of "Favorite Places" and the very beginning of "Rooftop Duet" spanning about 6 minutes. One head in the way but was shot around as much as possible. Sound is excellent. Show runs 82 minutes with no intermission.
Oscar Hammerstein II: Out Of My Dreams
3/6/12 ~ PBS-TV
Hosted by Matthew Morrison. This compelling and extremely informative documentary profiles the man who changed American musical theater forever, Oscar Hammerstein II, legendary lyricist for over 1,000 songs and librettist for forty-five works. Writer/director/producer JoAnn Young has selected the most exemplary clips from Hammersteins iconic musicals, including two film versions of Show Boat; the rarely seen film Lady Be Good; and archival footage of the two original stars of Carousel, Jan Clayton and John Raitt. Young also has conducted new interviews with Stephen Sondheim, who considers Hammerstein as a musical and surrogate father; director/producer Harold Prince; two stars of Rodgers and Hammerstein musicals, Shirley Jones and Mitzi Gaynor, Hammerstein family members and others. This PBS film also considers Hammerstein?s work as a humanitarian and political activist. Archival footage also includes a rare 1958 Hammerstein television interview with CBS News' Mike Wallace and a handful of recorded conversations. His late wife Dorothy and son James are also represented in archival interviews. "Oscar Hammerstein II Out of My Dreams" also promises clips from the Rodgers and Hammerstein film musicals "Oklahoma!," "Carousel," "South Pacific," "The King and I" and "The Sound of Music"; as well as "Show Boat," co-authored with Jerome Kern, and a performance of the Academy Award-winning Kern-Hammerstein song "The Last Time I Saw Paris." Segments from the 2008 Broadway production of South Pacific appear as well. Shown during a pledge drive, so there are breaks to raise money. 90 minutes.

Pamelas First Musical Pro Shot.
Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS posthumously presented Tony Award-winning composer Cy Coleman and Pulitzer Prize winner Wendy Wasserstein's collaboration at Town Hall on May 18, producing the pair's Pamela's First Musical for a heartfelt benefit performance.
The one-act musical, based on the children's book by the late Tony and Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Wasserstein, features a score by the late three-time Tony Award-winning composer Coleman with lyrics by Tony winner Zippel.
Graciela Daniele stages the 3 PM concert that also features Donna Murphy, Lila Coogan as Pamela, Lillias White , Donna McKechnie (A Chorus Line),Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty , Christine Ebersole , Tommy Tune , Carolee Carmello(Mamma Mia!), Richard Kind (The Producers), Sandy Duncan , Gregg Edelman , Christian Borle (Legally Blonde), Adam Heller (Caroline, Or Change), Robert Klein (The Sisters Rosensweig), David Garrison, Kathie Lee Gifford and New York Post theatre columnist Michael Riedel.
Pamela's First Musical was one of several projects Mr. Coleman was working on at the time of his sudden death in fall 2004. Nearly completed at the time of his passing, the production was further delayed following the death of Ms. Wasserstein in 2006. Zippel and Daniele continued to work on the musical through various workshops.

1/10 PBS-TV
Stew, DeAdre Aziza, Coleman Domingo, Elisa Davis, Chad Goodridge, Rebecca Naomi Jones. Directed by Spike Lee. A young black musician travels on a picturesque journey to rebel against his mother and his upbringing in a church-going, middle-class, late 1970's South Central Los Angeles neighborhood in order to find "the real". He finds new experiences in promiscuous Amsterdam, with its easy access to drugs and sex, and in artistic, chaotic, political Berlin, where he struggles with ethics and integrity when he misrepresents his background as poor to get ahead. Along with his "passing" from place to place and from lover to lover, the young musician moves through a number of musical styles from a background of gospel to punk, and then blues, jazz, and rock. He finally returns home to meet his mother to find she has passed away. Based on the life of Stew who is also the Narrator. This is a film of the stage show, recorded at the Belasco Theatre, where the show ran for 165 performances. Shown as part of the PBS series Great Performances.

Peter And Jerry
6/19/04 Hartford, CT
Frederick Weller, Johanna Day, Frank Wood. World premiere of the new play by Edward Albee. Edward Albee's Peter and Jerry, a special pairing of two one-act plays. Albee wrote The Zoo Story in 1958. The story of a fateful encounter in Central Park between two men from very different social and economic backgrounds. Peter is a middle-class family man who lives in ignorance of the world outside his seemingly perfect life. Jerry is a troubled soul who has just returned from a visit to the Central Park Zoo. Albee's very first play, The Zoo Story is a riveting stage dialogue and makes up the second act of Edward Albee's Peter and Jerry. For the first act, Albee has crafted a new play titled Homelife, which delves into the character of Peter and his relationship with his wife Ann prior to the events of The Zoo Story. The two acts combined make for an electrifying new theater piece. Well filmed. Some slight generational loss. Includes scanned Playbill information

Based on the best-selling Disney-Hyperion novel, the play features a dozen actors portraying more than 100 unforgettable characters and uses their enormous talent, ingenious stagecraft and the limitless possibilities of imagination. Pipe Dream
3/28/12 ~ Encores!
Will Chase, Laura Osnes, Leslie Uggams, Tom Wopat, James Clow, Philip Hernandez, James Moye, Steve Routman, Stephen Wallem. Produced by Encores! at City Center. Pipe Dream is the seventh stage musical by the team of Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II; it premiered on Broadway on November 30, 1955. The work is based on John Steinbeck's short novel Sweet ThursdaySteinbeck wrote the novel, a sequel to Cannery Row, in the hope of having it adapted into a musical. Set in Monterey, California, the musical tells the story of the romance between Doc, a marine biologist, and Suzy, who in the novel is a prostitute; her profession is only alluded to in the stage work. Pipe Dream was a flop and a financial disaster for Rodgers and Hammerstein. Broadway producers Cy Feuer and Ernie Martin held the rights to Sweet Thursday and wanted Frank Loesser to compose a musical based on it. When Loesser proved unavailable, Feuer and Martin succeeded in interesting Rodgers and Hammerstein in the project. As Hammerstein adapted Sweet Thursday, he and Rodgers had concerns about featuring a prostitute as female lead and setting part of the musical in a bordello. They signed operatic diva Helen Traubel to play Fauna, the house madam. As the show progressed through tryouts, Hammerstein repeatedly revised it, obscuring Suzy's profession and the nature of Fauna's house. Pipe Dream met with poor reviews, and rapidly closed once it exhausted its advance sale (lasting for only 246 performances). It had no national tour or London production, and has rarely been presented since. The Rodgers & Hammerstein Organization (which licenses their works) once hoped for a film version featuring the Muppets with Fauna played by Miss Piggy. Filmed from the balcony, with the balcony railing visible in most of the shots, but the filmer does his best to try and shoot around it. (This is probably the first time that a professional production of Pipe Dream was ever filmed!).

There's one or two blackouts a few seconds long, but other than that very well filmed .

The Prom: A New Musical Sep. 2017
Pre-Broadway World Premiere Beth Leavel, Christopher Sieber, Brooks Ashmanskas, Martin Moran, Anna Grace Barlow
A new Broadway-bound musical comedy directed by Tony Award winner Casey Nicholaw , director of Tuck Everlastingand co-director of The Book of Mormon.
Everyone’s got their issues—but for Emma, hers are a national headline. She becomes an instant outcast—and news story—when her high school cancels the prom rather than let her attend with her girlfriend.
Sensing a chance to correct an injustice—and maybe get some good publicity along the way—a group of fading Broadway stars takes up the cause, and invades Emma's small Indiana town. But their bumbling attempts at social activism make the situation far worse than they—or Emma—could have ever imagined.
Cultures clash and the town erupts in chaos. The community's reputation, Emma's future, and the actors' careers all hang in the balance, until a true hero emerges to save the day.
Beautifully filmed with a Hi-Definition camcorder, so the clarity is stunning. Heads appear in the wider shots.

Puffs was filmed over two performances in February. It stars Langston Belton, Madeleine Bundy, Jessie Cannizzaro, Nick Carrillo, A.J. Ditty, Julie Ann Earls, James Fouhey, Andy Miller, Zac Moon, Eleanor Philips, and Stephen Stout.
The show, directed by Kristin McCarthy Parker, was originally produced by Stephen Stout and Colin Waitt and is currently produced by Tilted Windmills Theatricals’ John Arthur Pinckard and David Carpenter.
Gone are the Days AKA Purlie Victorious 1963
Ossie Davis,Ruby Dee, Alan Alda
This film version of the successful stage play was written by and stars Ossie Davis as Purlie Victorious, a flamboyant, self ordained minister. Along with wife Lutibelle (Ruby Dee), he returns to Georgia to buy an old barn and convert it into a church. He seeks out Captain Cotchipec (Sorrel Booke), the aging plantation owner entrusted with a $500 inheritance left by the preacher's sister after her death. Lutibelle is talked into posing as a long-lost cousin to get the money quickly from the dying landowner. Comedian Godfrey Cambridge reprises his stage role as the black plantation straw boss who pays lip service in the presence of the Captain but mercilessly mock the old man behind his back. Lutibelle gets the money from the old man with the help of his sympathetic son Charlie (Alan Alda), who is as liberal and progressive as his father is racially intolerant.. Religious hypocrisy, racial bigotry, civil rights issues and the changing Southern society backed by forced integration are subjects in this film that coincided with the turbulent social issues of the time. The title is taken from the first line of Stephen Foster's sentimental classic {"Old Black Joe."} The film was released nearly one hundred years after the famous songwriter's death. Produced and directed by Nicholas Webster, most of the actors reprised their roles from the original stage production.
